Elise talks about setting goals

So, in my first post I preached ‘trying new things’ and I carried on about how I was going to start writing all the time in my amazing new blog. Well, it’s been over two weeks and I have yet to post anything. Sad day. So tonight I thought it was time for a post. I want to talk about setting goals. I clearly have some issues with goal setting but rather than declaring myself completely incompetent, I’m going to go through with the post and in the process, talk about someone who is actually good at setting goals (and even better at following through with them).

This person is my boyfriend Seth. He is such a driven person—the kind that can wake up one day and be like, “I’m going to get straight A’s from now on” or “I’m going to lose 60 pounds” or “I feel like a career change, I think I’ll become a nurse.” All of these examples are things that Seth has suddenly decided to do and then he just does it like it’s no biggie. Of these examples, I am most astonished by his weight loss goal. He started losing weight before we were even friends. He ran every day and drastically cut his daily calorie intake. When we first started dating (a little over a year ago) he had lost about half of his goal weight. To this day, he has lost around 60 pounds. This evening I looked through some old pictures of him on Facebook and I couldn’t believe how drastically different he looks.

Seth's BEFORE and AFTER

I really can’t believe how good he looks. Most importantly, I can’t believe how dedicated he is to keeping the weight off. He jogs, goes to the Y almost daily, counts calories like its going out of style, and tries to avoid eating a lot of junk food. I can’t say he’s perfect because he is a fat kid at heart and loves to pig out on greasy fast food now and then. But luckily, he has mastered the art of portion control.

Weight loss isn’t the only goal that Seth has set for himself but I know that for him it has been the hardest to achieve. He is one of those people who says they will do something and then they dedicate every part of themselves into doing that single thing. Amazingly enough, he also puts this same amount of dedication into other important things in his life and that’s what makes him such a great person. He doesn’t get a lot of recognition for the things he does (especially from me) so let this be just that.
